The principle of dissipative muffler is to use sound resistance to eliminate noise. That is to say, when deriving the calculation formula of sound attenuation, only the contribution of sound resistance to noise elimination is considered, and the influence of acoustic impedance is ignored. In practical engineering, in order to reduce the noise, the sound absorption material is often used to make the resistive muffler. This is because when the sound wave passes through the pipe lined with porous sound absorption material, the sound wave will excite the air molecules in the numerous pores in the porous material to vibrate. Part of the sound energy can be used to overcome the friction resistance and viscous force and become heat energy. Generally speaking, the resistance impedance composite muffler has better performance in medium and high frequency, but poor performance in low frequency. However, as long as the thickness and density of the sound absorption material are increased properly, and the low void ratio is selected, the noise reduction performance can be greatly improved at low intermediate frequency, thus the broadband resistance muffler can be manufactured.
